JOB TITLE: Adventure Camp Lifeguard
REPORTS TO: Manager, Camp Programs
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Seasonal Full-time
POSITION PURPOSE: To supervise, guard and provide surveillance during water activities to help prevent and manage any injuries or emergencies.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION: Adventure Camp’s Mission is to provide a safe, fun, memorable and unique camp experience where children can come face to face with the history and culture of American communities through such hands-on mediums as crafts and games as well as experience other exciting outdoor activities. The Lifeguard is responsible for the groups of campers and staff participating in water activities. This guarding position is done in murky water. The water activities will be on the river, river tubing and canoeing, and the pond activities are pedal boating and swimming. The Lifeguard will work closely with the camp office staff in order to provide safe water activities.

| Duties: | PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Place safety and well-being of campers and staff as primary importance
•Serve as role model for campers and counselors
•Attend one week of staff training
•Ensure all water activity areas are safe for campers and staff
•Supervise, guard and provide surveillance during water activities to help prevent injuries or accidents
•Conduct head counts every 15 minutes during swimming activities
•Administer CPR and First Aid when needed
•Prevent drowning and injuries by providing safety instructions to campers and staff
•Check and maintain river equipment daily
•Check and maintain lifejackets daily
•Check and maintain pedal boats daily
•Check and maintain personal first aid kit daily
•Make sure canoes and river tubes are ready for each group
•Communicate any supply needs to Camp Assistant and/or Camp Manager
•Communicate daily with Camp Manager to ensure safe water activities
•Assist all campers with special needs as outlined by ADA requirements
•Follow camp dress code
•Arrive on time and ready for work each day
•Create and foster a positive team attitude
•Adhere to Conner Prairie’s rules of conduct
•Any other duties as assigned

| Qualifications: | QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
•Must be 18 years of age or older
•High School diploma (one semester of college is preferred, but not required)
•Must possess current Red Cross Lifeguard certification as well as current CPR and First Aid certifications (CPR/First Aid training is provided by Conner Prairie)
•1-2 years prior lifeguard experience preferred
•Must be able to commit to all nine weeks of camp
•Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
